Smash Rebirth: Pokémon and Link - A Massive Overhaul

Pokémon I'm not going to claim to be a Pokémon expert. As such, I can't really say if these moves are accurate to the original Pokémon games. However videos like  RelaxAlax's "Know Your Moves" series  have educated me on just how accurate the Pokémon are. Having played very little of the Pokémon games this is pretty much all I have to go on. Jigglypuff has moves that are very iconic to her, so I think that these moves have become part of the character's identity. Pikachu could maybe use work, but as of right now, I can't say much on that topic.   Link However, on to the main event! The Hero of... I'm not sure, actually. When coming up with a revised moveset for Link, I was torn between a more traditional Link and a " Breath of the Wild (BotW) " style one. When thinking about how iconic the the Hero Clad in Green is, I didn't want to sacrifice that iconography for a current, but temporary Link. However, in my deliberation I r...

Addendum: Mario's Final Smash

I think Mario's Final Smash should be something truly iconic to him. When thinking of Mario iconography, there's only one true winner of "Most Recognizable:" The Mushroom. Up-Taunt For all one of you out there who don't know, Mario's mushroom let's him grow in size, similar to his  up-taunt.  For the final smash, I suggest we make Mario this size and have him rampage through the stage, like in " New SUPER MARIO BROS ." for the Nintendo DS.

Character Breakdown: Mario

When making my roster for Smash Rebirth, Mario was one of the first characters that was added. No matter what era of Nintendo's video games you're talking about, Mario is almost always been in the spotlight. Previous Smash games have actually had a pretty good move set for the plumber. He functions as an entry point for players picking the game up for the first time. As such, his moves should be fairly simple, like he is in all Smash games. Just punches and kicks, but not without references to his series in his specials and taunts. However, some of the references are very outdated. Particularly, his current side special, down special, and down taunt. So, I think it's time Mario got a modern update. Currently, his side special is his dinky old cape from Super Mario World. It doesn't even function like a recovery, similar to it's origin game! I propose we don't change the function, we change the animation. Instead of the cape, we use the raccoon power,...

A Minimal Smash Game

Around the time of Smash 4's release, Sakurai confirmed that he most likely would not be on board for Smash 5. However, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé has all-but confirmed that a Smash Bros. game would be on the Switch. If we assume that the game will not be a Smash 4 port, what will the game look like? Considering it will be under new developers, I have a feeling the game will be very... minimal. In making a roster for this hypothetical game, I thought about the essentials of modern Nintendo. I made a roster, with and without unlockable fighters. So when you boot-up "Super Smash Bros. Rebirth," here's what you see: The roster includes: Mario Bowser Pikachu Jigglypuff Link Ganondorf Donkey Kong Inkling Kirby King Dedede Robin Sonic Mii Brawler Mii Swordfighter Mii Gunner I know, its not a lot. Only 15 characters. When I said minimal, I meant MINIMAL. However, I think I captured the essence of modern Nintendo. All the icons of Nintendo'...
