Smash Rebirth: Pokémon and Link - A Massive Overhaul

Pokémon

I'm not going to claim to be a Pokémon expert. As such, I can't really say if these moves are accurate to the original Pokémon games. However videos like RelaxAlax's "Know Your Moves" series have educated me on just how accurate the Pokémon are. Having played very little of the Pokémon games this is pretty much all I have to go on.
Jigglypuff has moves that are very iconic to her, so I think that these moves have become part of the character's identity.
Pikachu could maybe use work, but as of right now, I can't say much on that topic.

Link

However, on to the main event! The Hero of... I'm not sure, actually. When coming up with a revised moveset for Link, I was torn between a more traditional Link and a "Breath of the Wild (BotW)" style one. When thinking about how iconic the the Hero Clad in Green is, I didn't want to sacrifice that iconography for a current, but temporary Link. However, in my deliberation I remembered a quote from an interview with Eiji Aonuma stating that "open-air games will be the standard for Zelda." This was the final push I needed to go for a "BotW" Link, as we might be seeing more of him.
This means a huge revision is required for Link's moveset.

The Sword and Shield

The basic "A" moves can still be sword strikes and that's about the only thing that stays the same. These sword strikes will be done with the Master Sword, which will be glowing at the start of the match. After 15 strikes, the sword will stop glowing, and will do 50% damage. This "powered-down" state will last for another 15 strikes.
Notification Style
At this point a notification will appear stating that "The Master Sword's power has been restored," as it does in-game.
The sword will then revert back to the glowing stage. The idle shield mechanic will return as well, with Link using a Royal Shield from "BotW." When the shield is used 10 times it will break, and Link will use a Traveler's Shield. After 5 more blocks, Link will not have a shield. After 10 seconds, the cycle will restart and Link will have a Royal Shield.

Specials

Now, Link's specials need to be changed. A LOT.  All to moves inspired by  "Breath of the Wild." His current moves only had "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" to go off of, so they we're pretty basic and didn't have a lot of references and origins from the "Zelda" series, making the current Link very inaccurate. So, without further ado: the new moves!

Up-B - Revali's Gale

Just like in the origin game, Link will shoot up on a gust of wind before gliding on his paraglider. In terms of function, it will be very similar to Peach's Parasol, with Link being able to use an aerial attack out of the gliding animation.

Down-B - Charged Attack

Similarly to "BotW" this move will have to be charged. Every second it will increase power, before reaching max after three seconds. If released before maximum Link will release a weak or medium version of the attack after one or two seconds respectively. However, if released at maximum charge to attack will not only have it's strongest melee damage, but if an opponent is within a certain distance of Link, they will get hit by Urbosa's Fury, a lightning attack.

Neutral-B - Remote Bomb

When pressed, this move will spawn a sphere bomb in Link's hand. If the "B" button is held, it will create a cube bomb. Link can then press the "A" button to throw the bomb, or the "B" button to place it. Once Link is no longer carrying the bomb he can press "B" again to detonate it.

Traveler's Bow

Side-B - Bow & Arrow

This move will function exactly as his current Neutral-B does, only with the cosmetic change of using a Traveler's Bow from "Breath of the Wild."

Final Smash - Sheikah Slate

Alright. The biggie. This move will incorporate all unused runes of Link's iconic item for the game, the Sheikah Slate. Well, except amiibo. If one or more opponent is within a certain distance from Link, he will create a Cryonis pillar under them, beginning the finisher.
Cryonis
This will start a very cinematic Final Smash, with Link and the opponent raised above the battlefield. The camera goes to a third person angle, like in "Breath of the Wild," and Link freezes the opponent using Stasis+ and slams metal boxes into them, with the momentum indicators appearing. Stasis+ then begins to wear off, and we switch to Link's point of view. He switches to Cryonis and destroys the ice pillar after jumping into the air. As he begins to fall, we switch to a view of the whole battlefield and he pulls out a bomb-arrow, thrusting the surrounding battle into slow motion. We zoom in on Link & the opponent as he releases the arrow and Stasis+ wears off, and the opponent is launched off the screen.

Animation Tweaks

Shield

Link's shield animation should be unique, like Yoshi's and... well, more characters need unique animations! Link's shield could be Daruk's protection, which allows us to use most of the Champion's abilities in this moveset.

Taunts

1. Down Taunt - Cold Shiver
2. Up Taunt - Eating
3. Side Taunt - This animation here.
If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments!

A Minimal Smash Game

Around the time of Smash 4's release, Sakurai confirmed that he most likely would not be on board for Smash 5. However, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé has all-but confirmed that a Smash Bros. game would be on the Switch. If we assume that the game will not be a Smash 4 port, what will the game look like? Considering it will be under new developers, I have a feeling the game will be very... minimal. In making a roster for this hypothetical game, I thought about the essentials of modern Nintendo. I made a roster, with and without unlockable fighters. So when you boot-up "Super Smash Bros. Rebirth," here's what you see: The roster includes: Mario Bowser Pikachu Jigglypuff Link Ganondorf Donkey Kong Inkling Kirby King Dedede Robin Sonic Mii Brawler Mii Swordfighter Mii Gunner I know, its not a lot. Only 15 characters. When I said minimal, I meant MINIMAL. However, I think I captured the essence of modern Nintendo. All the icons of Nintendo'...

Character Breakdown: Mario

When making my roster for Smash Rebirth, Mario was one of the first characters that was added. No matter what era of Nintendo's video games you're talking about, Mario is almost always been in the spotlight. Previous Smash games have actually had a pretty good move set for the plumber. He functions as an entry point for players picking the game up for the first time. As such, his moves should be fairly simple, like he is in all Smash games. Just punches and kicks, but not without references to his series in his specials and taunts. However, some of the references are very outdated. Particularly, his current side special, down special, and down taunt. So, I think it's time Mario got a modern update. Currently, his side special is his dinky old cape from Super Mario World. It doesn't even function like a recovery, similar to it's origin game! I propose we don't change the function, we change the animation. Instead of the cape, we use the raccoon power,...
