Character Breakdown: Mario

When making my roster for Smash Rebirth, Mario was one of the first characters that was added. No matter what era of Nintendo's video games you're talking about, Mario is almost always been in the spotlight. Previous Smash games have actually had a pretty good move set for the plumber. He functions as an entry point for players picking the game up for the first time. As such, his moves should be fairly simple, like he is in all Smash games. Just punches and kicks, but not without references to his series in his specials and taunts. However, some of the references are very outdated. Particularly, his current side special, down special, and down taunt. So, I think it's time Mario got a modern update. Currently, his side special is his dinky old cape from Super Mario World. A Minimal Smash Game

Around the time of Smash 4's release, Sakurai confirmed that he most likely would not be on board for Smash 5. However, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé has all-but confirmed that a Smash Bros. game would be on the Switch. If we assume that the game will not be a Smash 4 port, what will the game look like? Considering it will be under new developers, I have a feeling the game will be very... minimal. In making a roster for this hypothetical game, I thought about the essentials of modern Nintendo. I made a roster, with and without unlockable fighters. So when you boot-up "Super Smash Bros. Rebirth," here's what you see: The roster includes: Mario Bowser Pikachu Jigglypuff Link Ganondorf Donkey Kong Inkling Kirby King Dedede Robin Sonic Mii Brawler Mii Swordfighter Mii Gunner I know, its not a lot.
